• Proformative Landscapes, 11/03/2016

  Graduate studio exploring evidence based design and creative imagination. Projects include healing environments, resiliant infrastructure and designing with and for biodiversity.

• Mapleton, Iowa Disaster Recoevry: BioSwale and Trailhead Design, 12/01/2015

  In LA 404: Advanced Landscape Architecture studio, students worked with national experts and local community memebers to develop an education program for community members, a construction method for the bioswale as part of a larger treatment train, and detail interventions to attract wildlife. The bioswale and trailhead are currently (fall 2016) under construction.

• State ASLA Honor Award: Mapleton Long Term Disaster Recovery Planning, 04/01/2015

  Award to Julia Badenhope and JBC, Inc. for planning and design solution for resilient infrastructure and community action strategy.

• ASLA Central States Honor Award , 04/11/2014

  Award in Planning and Analysis for Long Term Disaster Recovery Planning, including participatory reserach based assessments, watershed analysis and formulation of sustainable green infrastructure. In partnership with the office of Jeffrey L. Bruce, Kansas City.

• Community Design: Monona County Trails Study, 12/01/2013

  In LA 401: Community Design Studio a team of students developed a proposal for county-scale trail development that promotes healthy lifestyle, provide access and experience of valued natural places, and support tourism development. Products included a country trail development strategy that builds on Iowa DOT, IEDA, and INHF opportunities as well as community initiatives. Parts of this project are currently (2016) being pursued by Onawa, Iowa and Mapleton, Iowa.

• Regents Award for Faculty Excellence, 09/30/2013

  Award by the Board of Regents of the State of Iowa for exceptional performance of faculty in research, teaching and or outreach. Two were awarded in 2013.

• Fellow, American Society of Landscape Architects, 09/30/2012

  Recognition by the American Society of Landscape Architects for exceptional achievement in the area of "Knowledge," for development of methods for effective community planning and design, sustainable practices, and participatory research.

• Advanced Plant Technologies, 09/01/2010

  Developed and launched Advanced Plant Technologies, introducing design students to the properties and performance of plant and soil systems. Topics include physical and biological properties of soils, designed systems using these properties including urban tree systems, green roofs, biowalls, and other emergent hybrid ecological/infrastructural forms. Now a required course for MLA students
